Today we are sharing with you one simple and very effective method for keeping your carpet fresh and clean with the help of a home-made and natural carpet freshener receipt.

Sometimes it is nice to boost the freshness and cleanliness of your carpet, even if you usually hire professional carpet cleaning services. The clean smell of your home or workplace is highly dependent on the clean and the fresh smell of your carpet. If you have pets, ensuring the freshness and deodorising your carpet would be an even bigger necessity. Instead of rushing to the store and purchasing those expensive carpet deodorising powders, you can successfully and what is even more important – for a lot cheaper - get the same effect by using this amazing DIY carpet freshener that contains only natural ingredients and no artificial fragrances.

Here all the ingredients you need that are super easy to find in your local grocery store and won’t break the bank (plus these are natural and won’t bring unnecessary chemicals into your home):

  • ½ cup Borax
  • ½ cup baking soda
  • 20-25 drops of essential oil of your choice (we recommend lemon, wild orange, grapefruit, bergamot or tangerine for the fresh and zesty aroma)
  • Or 1 tablespoon of ground spices

Now you have everything you need and you can mix it into an old salt shaker since the ingredients are powdery and it will be easier for you to use it that way. What you need to do next is sprinkling the mixture onto your carpet and leave it like this for around 10 to 15 minutes, then vacuum the residue up.

  • Bonus tip 1: Do not use cinnamon or cloves, if your carpet is in a light colour and you are afraid that darker stains might be left. However, if you are a big fan of the cinnamon and cloves fragrance, there are cinnamon and cloves essential oils you can use instead.
  • Bonus tip 2: If you or someone in your family is sensitive to smells or you just do not want your carpet smelling like anything, you can simply neutralise the bad smells by using plain baking soda only. Baking soda has a highly absorbent power and will soak all smells and the collected greasiness and soil. It is also effective in neutralising the odours in the whole room.
